Daniel H. Haft's indexed work centers on prokaryotic genome annotation and protein family resources, most prominently the TIGRFAMs database of protein families, whose foundational 2001 and 2003 descriptions and 2013 update together anchor a widely used functional-identification resource. His most-cited lead-author contributions also include a guild of 45 CRISPR-associated protein families and multiple CRISPR/Cas subtypes in prokaryotic genomes, an early systematic survey of CRISPR diversity, and RefSeq's prokaryotic annotation and curation pipeline, including its later adaptation to the age of metagenomes. Beyond these, Haft contributed as a middle author to consortium-scale resources such as the RefSeq database's taxonomic expansion and functional annotation and the InterPro integrative protein signature database, linking his protein-family expertise to broad community infrastructure. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across these works, his trajectory runs from building protein-family and CRISPR classification resources toward sustaining reference annotation pipelines, consistently connecting computational protein family discovery to the functional interpretation of prokaryotic genomes.
