Chuyang Y. Tang's indexed work centers on membrane separation science, particularly the physiochemical characterization of thin-film composite polyamide RO and NF membranes and how coating chemistry governs performance. Early first-author studies probed the nano- and micro-scale properties of uncoated and coated membranes using XPS, TEM, and streaming potential, while later reviews addressed colloidal interactions and fouling of NF and RO membranes and membrane fouling in osmotically driven processes. A related strand examines internal concentration polarization coupled with fouling in forward osmosis during humic acid filtration, and senior-author work maps the upper bound of thin-film composite polyamide membranes for desalination. Beyond these, Tang contributed to reviews on forward osmosis opportunities and challenges and on membrane-based lithium recovery from water resources, alongside work on flat-sheet thin-film composite forward osmosis membranes. Senior-author studies introduced a tannic acid/Fe³⁺ nanoscaffold for interfacial polymerization to enhance nanofiltration, and reviewed thin-film nanocomposite membranes with interlayered structures. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond publications. Across these outputs, the throughline is a sustained effort to connect membrane material chemistry to fouling behavior and separation performance.
