Christophe Ballif's indexed work centers on the optical and electronic behavior of perovskite and silicon solar cells, spanning fundamental characterization and record-setting device architectures. His most-cited lead-author contributions include sharp optical absorption edges in organometallic halide perovskites and their relation to photovoltaic performance (2,859 citations), alongside fully textured monolithic perovskite/silicon tandems reaching 25.2% efficiency. Related studies on complex refractive index spectra of perovskite thin films and current losses at the front of silicon heterojunction cells suggest a sustained interest in the interfaces and optics that limit device performance. Beyond these, his portfolio includes middle-author contributions such as raising III–V/Si one-sun conversion efficiency to 32.8% for two junctions and 35.9% for three, and dopant-free asymmetric heterocontacts for efficient silicon solar cells. Later work on interface passivation for 31.25%-efficient perovskite/silicon tandems extends this trajectory. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond publications. Across these works, the through-line is a methodical push from material characterization toward industrially relevant tandem efficiency, with collaborators such as Ali Javey appearing in the broader network.
