Cheng Tang's indexed work centers on defect and coordination engineering of nanocarbon and single-atom electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction and related energy conversions. His most-cited first-author studies examine how first and second coordination spheres of single-atom catalysts tune acidic oxygen reduction selectivity, and how topological defects and dopants in metal-free nanocarbon govern oxygen electrocatalysis, alongside a widely cited framework for reliable, insightful ambient electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction. Related work extends this to atomic Co–Nx–C sites in hierarchical graphene for flexible solid Zn–air batteries. Beyond these, Tang contributed to reviews on electrocatalytic dinitrogen reduction to ammonia under ambient conditions and on precious-metal-free bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts for Zn–air batteries, both reflecting his engagement with broader catalyst-design consortia. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across these outputs, the through-line is a consistent focus on linking atomic-scale structure—defects, dopants, coordination environments—to electrocatalytic selectivity and stability, work carried out with collaborators including Zhao Chang-xin and Chong Yan.
