Chau Yuen's indexed work centers on reconfigurable intelligent surfaces for energy-efficient wireless communication, a line he has led as senior author: the 2018 arXiv study on RIS energy efficiency (3,782 citations) and the 2020 IEEE JSAC work applying deep reinforcement learning to multiuser MISO systems with reconfigurable surfaces (941 citations). A related 2022 overview addresses hardware designs, channel models, and estimation techniques for RIS, while earlier work on low-resolution large intelligent surfaces for energy-efficient multi-user MISO and on passive intelligent mirrors for achievable-rate maximization marks the same efficiency-driven inquiry. Earlier still, his first-author work on quasi-orthogonal STBC with minimum decoding complexity and senior-authored full-duplex relay selection show a longer-standing interest in cooperative and MIMO transmission. Beyond these, Yuen contributed as a co-author to widely cited consortium-style treatments of smart radio environments empowered by reconfigurable AI meta-surfaces and to holographic MIMO surfaces for 6G networks, alongside Chongwen Huang on RIS channel estimation and practical phase-shift modeling. He has also engaged energy systems, including game-theoretic energy management for CHP and PV prosumers in grid-connected microgrids and peer-to-peer electricity trading. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond publications. The arc runs from cooperative MIMO and relay design through RIS hardware, estimation, and learning-based optimization toward 6G-oriented intelligent wireless environments.
