Björn Stevens's indexed work centers on the atmospheric component of the MPI-M Earth System Model (ECHAM6) and its role in CMIP5 climate and carbon-cycle projections, the latter carrying over 1,600 citations. A parallel thread examines aerosol effects on clouds and precipitation in a buffered system, alongside later efforts to bound global aerosol radiative forcing of climate change. Earlier studies used large-eddy simulation of nocturnal marine stratocumulus and shallow cumulus convection to test model fidelity against observations. Beyond these, Stevens contributed to the CMIP6 experimental design and organization and to deep learning and process understanding for data-driven Earth system science, both widely cited consortium efforts. His later work on DYAMOND, comparing non-hydrostatic atmospheric models, and on the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation without a role for ocean circulation extends this modeling focus. No software, datasets, patents, or grants appear in the indexed record, so the contribution arc rests on model development, aerosol–cloud process studies, and community intercomparison frameworks.
