Research Statement

Bao-Jie He's indexed work centers on the intersection of urban climate and design, particularly how cities can adapt to heat. His most-cited first-author research examines localized synergies between heat waves and urban heat islands, showing how their combined effects shape human thermal comfort and demand integrated heat management. Related work develops a zero-UHI-impact building framework for green building design, and analyzes co-benefits linking sponge city stormwater strategies with urban heat island mitigation. A further strand traces how local-scale urban morphology and ventilation interact with sea breeze to shape outdoor thermal comfort. Beyond these lead-author contributions, He has contributed to applied studies of barriers, drivers, and promotion strategies for green building technology adoption, including the Ghanaian case, and to analyses of key technologies in nearly zero energy buildings in China. No software, datasets, patents, or funded grants appear in the indexed record, so the visible arc is publication-based: from diagnosing urban heat mechanisms toward design and policy pathways for mitigation, a trajectory reflected in collaborations such as that with Ayyoob Sharifi.
