Aron Walsh's research centers on the atomistic and electronic structure of functional materials, particularly hybrid halide perovskites. His highly cited work on the atomistic origins of high performance in hybrid halide perovskite solar cells helped establish how defect physics and ion migration govern device behaviour, while related studies addressed charged point defect self-regulation and the cubic perovskite structure of formamidinium lead iodide. Earlier first-author contributions examined band-edge electronic structure in BiVO4 and In2O3, clarifying how cation orbitals and lone-pair stereochemistry shape oxide band gaps. Beyond these, Walsh contributed to cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals and to ionic transport in hybrid lead iodide perovskite solar cells, both widely cited consortium efforts. His broader portfolio includes kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 defect classification and the ISOS stability-assessment consensus for perovskite photovoltaics, alongside collaborations with Constantinos C. Stoumpos and David B. Mitzi. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications, so the visible arc runs from first-principles oxide and kesterite modelling through perovskite defect chemistry to machine-learning-guided materials design.
