Research Statement

AI generated · Oct 14, 2026

Arnold B. Bakker's indexed work centers on the Job Demands–Resources (JD–R) model, which he helped articulate and later revise as a framework linking workplace demands, resources, burnout, and engagement. His most-cited first-author contributions include a state-of-the-art account of the JD–R model (2007, over 12,000 citations) and a stocktaking and forward-looking statement of JD–R theory (2016), while senior-author work with Evangelia Demerouti established the JD–R model of burnout and tested job demands and resources against burnout and engagement across multiple samples. Beyond these, his portfolio includes the UWES short questionnaire for measuring work engagement and the role of personal resources within the JD–R model, alongside burnout and engagement among teachers. No software tools, datasets, patents, or funded grants appear in the indexed record, so the publicly indexed outputs suggest a sustained, theory-driven line of inquiry: refining JD–R constructs, measurement instruments, and their application across occupational and student populations.
