Alexandros Stamatakis's most-cited work centers on maximum-likelihood phylogenetic inference at scale. His RAxML software family, introduced through RAxML-VI-HPC for analyses of thousands of taxa under mixed models and extended in RAxML version 8 for large-tree analysis and post-analysis, underpins much of the field's large-scale tree estimation; the later RAxML-NG recasts this as a fast, scalable, user-friendly inference tool. Complementary threads include rapid bootstrap algorithms for phylogenetic web servers and, with Arndt von Haeseler, a general species delimitation method applied to phylogenetic placements. Beyond these, he contributed as a middle author to ARB, a software environment for sequence data, and to phylogenomic reconstructions of insect evolution and the early branches of the modern bird tree of life. Senior-author tools such as PEAR, for merging Illumina paired-end reads, and EPA-ng, for massively parallel evolutionary placement of genetic sequences, extend the portfolio toward read processing and placement. No software, dataset, grant, or patent outputs beyond publications are indexed. The through-line is computational infrastructure for evolutionary genomics: reusable, scalable methods that let others infer, place, and delimit taxa from ever-larger sequence datasets.
